Should you start a podcast as a marketing strategy for your business?

Is a podcast a good fit for everyone? Carey points out that deciding whether or not to launch a podcast comes down to knowing your target market, knowing your capacity, and knowing the goals for your business.

Secondly, do you have the capacity to take on more clients if your podcast takes off and generates leads? Do you have the time to devote to everything required to create a podcast?

Because a lot happens behind the scenes. Your recording has to be assembled with music, announcements, ads, and disclaimers. You might want to create graphics for social media or your website, write show notes written to summarize the episode, and so much more.

That’s why the average podcast doesn’t get beyond 15 episodes. They don’t properly assess that they have time in their schedule. They don’t understand the effort it will take. It becomes an overwhelming burden.

But podcasting is one of the best forms of content marketing for people trying to build authority for themselves or their business or to highlight their expertise. And over time, as listeners need your service, they’ll think of you immediately.

How to start and cultivate a successful podcast

If you’re convinced that a podcast will benefit you and your business, Carey emphasizes that you need to commit to it for a year. Podcasting is a long-haul endeavor. It will take time to see an ROI. So you must be committed to it as a long-term strategy to build influence and build listeners. Consistent quality content put out over time magnifies itself.

What else do you need? Quality equipment. When someone is considering your podcast, they’re comparing it to every other form of media that they can consume. If they choose your show, the quality has to be good. You must present yourself professionally.

What else does Carey recommend? What is his #1 tip for someone interested in podcasting? How do you define a successful podcast? Listen to find out.

How to get more traction for your podcast

If you’re struggling to get the right guests on your show, you need a better sourcing strategy. Carey shares that every time you host a guest on your podcast, ask them to suggest 2–3 people that might be a great fit for your show. If those people can make the introduction, even better. Over time, you’ll be able to connect with the guests that you want via networking.

If you desire more listeners, you need to know who your audience is and where they hang out—both online and offline. How do you get your show in front of them in a friendly way? Find a way to provide value and demonstrate that you can help solve their problems.

Secondly, consider being a guest on other podcasts. You need to get in front of people who have the audience you want and then provide value. When you get a chance to share how people can connect with you, only talk about your podcast.

Carey discusses where the future of podcasting is headed and shares other great tips and strategies to launch and maintain a thriving podcast in this episode. Give it a listen!
