Daniel Felt is the Founder and CEO of Kura Home. Daniel grew up on a hobby farm and began working for the small family business starting at a young age. At age 16, he helped his parents build their dream home, learning everything from concrete pouring to siding installation.

After studying business at Bethel University, he worked for several years in the business and home service industry. As a General Manager, he saw that there was a huge need for busy homeowners to have their home maintenance taken care of in a professional manner. This discovery left him to establish Kura Home.

Daniel has a growth-oriented mindset and is working hard to scale his business rapidly. He has surrounded himself with a leadership team that motivates him to pursue large goals for the company. Daniel started Kura Home—providing routine home maintenance—out of his garage in 2016. Kura Home has grown from its first location in Minneapolis to Dallas, Atlanta, and Denver. They visit their client’s homes once a quarter and do things like cleaning A/C units, air ducts, and dryer vents. They provide up to 32 in-home services quarterly, with air duct cleaning providing 50–60% of their revenue.

They send someone out to look at your laundry room, utility room, and kitchen to help determine what services you need (which are offered a la carte). Most clients pay between $199 and $399 per quarter. After each appointment, they schedule the next one three months out. People are sent an automatic reminder a week and a day beforehand.

How Daniel built a customer-centric culture

Daniel believes that your culture starts with employee #1 and client #1. They treat every customer as if they were a family member. How would you treat them? Sometimes it means losing money or showing up at a customer’s at 9 pm to help fix their water heater.

If Daniel sees them, he wants to know that he can shake their hand and look them in the eye. If they make a mistake, they do everything they can to make things right. The way you speak about your clients in a private meeting sets the culture. So they talk about their customers as if they were in the room listening to every conversation.

Kura Home’s effective social media marketing strategy

99% of Kura Home’s social media is focused on education. They also share videos showing some of the junk they clean out of air vents and pair it with trending audio so the algorithms will boost that content. It’s a combination of education and entertainment. After doing that consistently for five years, they’ve been able to monetize their Facebook account.

Kura Home also uses influencers to help expand their business. Influencers have a captive audience. Their target market is women between the ages of 30 and 55. So Daniel looked at who they were following and listening to online and approached those influencers.

They’ve found the most success with offering free services to influencers. When they post about their experience, it often leads to gaining 20–30 new customers. When people see someone they trust using a product or service, they’re more willing to try something new.

What Daniel believes is the key to the success of Kura Home

Daniel points out that having documented goals and avoiding distractions has led to their success. It takes time to reach your goals, so you have to stay consistent and keep your eye on the prize. Daniel also notes that you have to make sure you’re in the right spot financially so you aren’t stressed. When you’re stressed about finances, it impacts every area of your life. But when your finances are in order, you are in a better mindset to make good decisions.
