People Building with Mike ‘C-Roc’ Ciorrocco, Episode #34

Today’s guest on the Mitlin Money Mindset™ is Mike Saracco. Better known as C-Roc, the CEO of People Building Inc., and the powerhouse behind the “What Are You Made Of?” movement. C-Roc is a performance coach, author, dynamic public speaker, visionary, and thought leader. He was recognized by Yahoo! Finance as one of the top business leaders to follow in 2020 and is on a mission to build people. His drive comes from his ability to inspire others and he measures his success by how he is able to help others achieve greatness. C-Roc had a fire lit in him at an early age. This fire has propelled his desire to help people see the greatness inside themselves using past events to fuel their own fire. This also prompted him to write his debut book, Rocket Fuel. I’m excited to share this conversation and some great nuggets from C-Roc on how you can spark the fire within you.

From self analyzation to bottling rocket fuel

At 11 Mike had an experience with his parents that would impact his mindset throughout his life (Check out the episode for this backstory). He didn’t realize it but his whole life he’s been driving off of this fire that was lit through that time in his past. Two or three years ago when Mike went through a phase and a couple of events, it made him look back on his life and begin to analyze and question why it was that no matter what he goes through his line graph just keeps going up. Despite people screwing him over or getting in with the wrong crowds, what he found was that he was taking everything that would stop the average mindset person and he was storing it in his tank and converting it into rocket fuel. Now he’s bottling it and sharing it with others.

What are you made of?

“What are you made of?” comes from Mike’s self-talk and thinking to himself anytime he’s going through tough times in business or relationships. He says “This ain’t nothing after what I’ve been through. Come on, man. What are you made of?” He has wristbands that say it to remind him “Come on, man we got this! What are you made of?” And it’s not just for bad things. Mike says when things are going great and he wants to take it to the next level and to not get complacent and comfortable he’s asking that very same question. “What are you made of?” It’s like a refocusing tool for him, and others, to get back on track or stay on track one way or the other.

Mentorship, is it better to give or to receive?

I think a lot of people feel they need or want a mentor. What I found in my own personal experience is that being the mentor sometimes gives me so much gold and so much pride in working with that person that I almost get as much from being the mentor as I do when I am a mentee.

Mike says people don’t believe it but he has insecurities himself. He has a saying that “it’s never as bad as he thinks it is and it’s never as good as people think it appears.” He says the feedback that he gets from mentoring someone or putting out content on social media lifts his spirits and self-value. He thinks it’s a good thing. Mike says there’s a lot of value for him in how he shares information with people and then hearing how they interpret it. He says it is very rewarding.

We also talked about finding a mentor and some steps that C-Roc says you can take to do that so check out the episode for more on not just finding but being a mentor as well.
