The purpose of The “10 Disciplines for Managing and Maximizing Your Energy”

Have you implemented EOS or something similar and begun to see success in your business but still feel out of control? The 10 disciplines help you build a foundation to create space in your life to focus on creating more freedom, more creativity, and more impact.

Many people at this stage in their entrepreneurial career have mastered their “outside self” but still feel empty. They’ve realized success with a great company. They’re getting recognition. They might have everything they dreamed about obtaining. But they still feel empty and don’t know why.

The 10 Disciplines for Managing and Maximizing Your Energy

These are the 10 disciplines and a brief synopsis of each 10 disciplines:

  • 10-year-thinking: Shift your mindset from short-term thinking to thinking in 10-year timeframes. It can be as simple as “I want rich relationships 10 years from now.” Focusing on your outcomes makes you more mindful of your actions.
  • Take time off: They challenge people to take 130 days off per year and not think about work for the entire day. Work on a hobby or spend time with your family to re-energize yourself.
  • Know thyself: Be yourself 100% of the time. People can be proud that they’re chameleons—but that’s not you. Be authentic because people can pick it up when you aren’t.
  • Be still: Sit in silence for 30 minutes every day. It can be prayer, meditation, gratitude journaling, etc. Find what works best for you. When you sit in silence, your mind becomes busy.
  • Know your 100%: Decide on the perfect number of hours per week and weeks per year you’ll deliver value to the world. It’s about sending boundaries. You need to be fully energized in every single thing you do in that allocated time. Moving beyond that leads to burnout. Are you delivering your highest impact in the world?
  • Say “no” often: Say no to everything that doesn’t fit into the first five disciplines. It isn’t easy. You can connect people with someone else or let them know you can’t say yes to their request now.
  • Don’t do $25-an-hour work (professionally OR personally): Never do anything you could pay someone $25 an hour or less to do. This is important work. Many people need it. But you’re working at a different level that’s driving impact. Pay attention to your daily activities. Delegate anything you can.
  • Prepare every night: Before your head hits the pillow, create a plan for the next day. It’s simple and powerful. Clarity will help you sleep. Secondly, your subconscious will start doing some work for you. You’ll wake up and hit the ground running.
  • Put everything in one place: Don’t take notes on phones, laptops, journals, post-it notes, etc. but pick one thing where you’ll capture every idea, action item, and commitment throughout your day. You’re letting people down when you miss something.
  • Be humble: View yourself as an equal to every person on this planet. Imagine a continuum. Where do you land on that continuum? Are there times when you feel more important? With that awareness, you’ll shift your mindset toward humility. People are attracted to humble people.

How the 10 Disciplines tie into EOS and living The EOS Life

You build your business and get it to a point where you don’t feel you have the control or clarity you need. Let’s say you found EOS and implemented it in your business. 140,000 are running an EOS type of platform. Once things are removing in the right direction, you start to notice your life is richer when you’re working with people you love to be around.

The 10 disciplines come in once this part of your foundation is built. The 10 disciplines help give you the space you need to build your personal foundation for success. It’s about finding inner fulfillment. If you are ready to implement both practices at the same time, by all means, Rob says to do it.

Are all the disciplines equally important or do some carry more weight? How do you begin to implement them in your lives? Learn how to incorporate these 10 disciplines into your life in this episode of the Mitlin Money Mindset™!
