Eddie’s journey to becoming The Yum Yum Foodie

On a trip to Spain In the early 2000s, Eddie had a pivotal experience where he became a foodie. He became THE friend you called to find out where to eat, wherever you are in the world. His wife encouraged him to create a blog to ward off late-night calls from friends, which he’s since turned into a full-time career. When he started The Yum Yum Foodie, he hoped that television opportunities would present themselves.

How did Eddie come up with the name “The Yum Yum Foodie?” As a spokesperson for a car company, he traveled the world. After work, he became The Yum Yum Foodie and explored whatever city he was in. “Yummy” is a word that Eddie used to describe things he loved. It just made sense. He got lucky and snagged every social media handle as The Yum Yum Foodie.

How Eddie become a judge on “Dinner Takes All”

In June of 2017, Eddie was working a Lexus job, which he had done for nine years. Someone asked him the same question he’d always been asked, and that day it bothered him. That’s when he realized that it was time to leave that job. So he took a leap of faith and quit.

Shortly after, he went to Japan for two weeks. When he got back, his rep called him about being a judge on a food competition show. He got on the phone with Dave Noll and Cleve Keller. He felt like he was talking to family. They got his sense of humor. They had great synergy. A week later, he was on a plane to shoot two seasons of “Dinner Takes All.”

How Eddie pivoted because of Covid to stay relevant

When the Covid pandemic hit, Eddie started creating content at home. He got a phone call from a friend who was on the National Board of Pork Farmers, who were struggling because of canceled events. When Eddie cooks, he likes to cook enough food to create three separate meals from it. So he created a coffee-rubbed pork loin that could become a frittata for breakfast and pork tacos for lunch and pitched the idea to them. He notes that it’s too easy to become complacent. You have to be consistent, flexible, and able to think on your feet.

It’s also when Eddie created his podcast, “Kill the Bottle.” Eddie happened to be the guest on another podcast after which one of the producers told him he needed his own show. This person also offered to produce it for him. Eddie agreed—but only if this producer became the co-host. Kill the Bottle was born and has hosted numerous celebrities.

Bio

Born and raised in Miami, Florida. I was the host of the interactive Latino oriented talk show “Chat” on NBC Mun2. This international exposure to the Latino community inspired me to always keep my Latin heritage close to heart and never forget my roots.

A year later I was inspired to pick up and move across the country from Miami, Florida to sunny Los Angeles, California. I’m currently one of the judges on the hit food competition show “Dinner Takes All” on BYUtv.

Los Angeles is where I was bitten by the travel and foodie bug. For the past seven years I’ve traveled the globe in search of foods, coffees, tastes, and places that move me. TheYumYumFoodie was created to share all of these wonderful and not so wonderful experiences in my culinary life.
