Learn more about Matt Halloran and ProudMouth

Matt runs the largest podcasting company for financial services professionals in North America. Matt and Kirk started the company five years ago with the ultimate goal of helping financial advisors get their voices into the marketplace and provide financial education to the masses. That’s the power of podcasting.

They went through a rebranding process and changed their messaging to “Be your own loud. Rise above the noise. Be proud of what you have to say.” They are known as a podcasting company who help accelerate advisors from talking with skeptics to working with fans.

Matt’s partner, Kirk, is a genius with marketing, branding, and design and he’s unbelievably detail-oriented. Kirk needed someone who could be the face of the company who could create copious amounts of content and build their system.

Why podcasting is an effective marketing tool

Podcasting allows people to get to know who you are, what you do, and what makes you unique when it’s convenient for them. If you sell your expertise for a living, people want to know what you know. They want to know you. And if people want to know what it’s like to work with you and your firm, they’ll listen to your show. People come in ready to do business with you because you made it easy to get to know you.

But how can you help your podcast gain traction? Matt emphasizes that one of the best things people don’t do—but should—is send their podcast to everyone they know. Ask for feedback. Get people to engage.

The second thing you need to do is turn your podcast into micro-content. You should take your long-form piece of content and chop it up into smaller pieces of content. Share it with a CTA like “Listen to the show” or “Subscribe now!”

Why great marketing takes time

It takes 18–24 months to see net new business—but that doesn’t mean there isn’t an ROI. According to Matt, there are 5 main ROIs of podcasting:

  • The content itself has value. You’re sharing actionable information with your clients and listeners.
  • Podcasting is an unbelievable client communication tool. It’s a great way to deepen relationships.
  • It’s easier to refer someone to a podcast than it is to call someone. People always prefer to text.
  • You are going to get more referrals from existing relationships in your center of influence with a podcast.
  • If you do the first four things, you will get new business.

Matt’s company has produced 7,000 episodes, averaging over 150 a month. Many clients heard about ProudMouth through their podcast (or from being a guest on a podcast). Podcasting is a long-term and effective marketing strategy.

Be Your Own Loud: If you are yourself, you have no competition

Matt implores you to stop trying to be someone else. Stop trying to chase someone else’s dreams. Just figure out what you want. He acknowledges that it can be difficult, especially because we are being told that we need to project a certain image. But it IS important to listen to yourself. It is the greatest gift you can give yourself. When Matt and Kirk developed ProudMouth, they decided to unapologetically be themselves. It makes it far easier to build relationships and grow your business.
