Learn more about Olivia Dreizen Howell and Fresh Starts Registry

Olivia was a middle school teacher for many years. When she had her son, she left teaching and started freelance writing. She approached local businesses on Long Island and offered to run their Facebook page for free. The right people always came her way at the perfect time. Before she knew it, she had a marketing agency—March Lion Media. She’s now been in the digital media marketing space for over a decade.

When Olivia got divorced in 2019, half of her things had left with her husband. It was an “Aha!” moment. People had registries for getting married and having babies—why not for people dealing with a life transition? There was no such thing as a divorce gift registry.

So Olivia started a new business. Fresh Starts Registry is the first—and currently only—platform for everything you need to start over. But what sets them apart? They’ve curated a list of vetted experts to guide you through your life change. They work with 50+ experts ranging from divorce lawyers to real estate agents to life coaches.

Olivia’s goal is to empower people through difficult life changes. When you make small decisions about what to buy for yourself, it empowers you to make bigger decisions.

How Olivia built the resource guide to help people find their “hype team”

Olivia wanted to build a website that people could keep coming back to. So they created it with five life changes in mind: divorce, breakups, grief, job changes, and stepping into your truth. When they built the website, they reached out to friends who were experts and asked them if they wanted to be a part of it.

These experts pay $37 for a monthly membership. In return, they get social media marketing and business development support. Every month, they have two speakers come in. They throw open office hours to help with social media strategy. Olivia’s goal is to support experts with business development so they can focus on their clients. And as they grow, they continue to reach out to experts to see if they want to get involved.

How do you support someone getting a divorce?

50% of first marriages end in divorce. Divorces most often happen between the second and third year of marriage or between the seventh and eighth years of marriage. Divorce is incredibly difficult. Olivia had support through every part of it and it was still the hardest thing she’s ever done.

If you hear that someone is getting a divorce, tell them that you’re proud of them for making that big decision. Do not shame someone. Be there to listen to them and support them. You don’t have to offer advice. Send your friend money for dinner. Send them flowers. Do little things and show up for them when they need you. Let them know that they’re not alone.

You don’t get a shiny trophy at the end of an unhappy marriage. But it’s a gift because you get to start over. You get the chance to live a fulfilled and happy life. The other side of divorce can be a beautiful place.
